It started with a bad beard.
Not literally — but close. A few years back, I was using whatever beard oil was on the shelf at the store. The ingredients list was a paragraph long, half of it unpronounceable, and the scent was something between "pine fresh" and "industrial cleaner." My beard felt like I'd coated it in something synthetic.
So I started reading. Then I started mixing. My first batch was in a mason jar in my kitchen — jojoba, some almond oil, a few drops of cedarwood. Crude, but it worked better than anything I'd bought. The beard looked better. Felt better. And it actually smelled like something a man would choose to wear.
Why Harriman, Tennessee?
I'm from here. Not Nashville, not Memphis — Harriman. A small town east of Knoxville that most people haven't heard of unless they drove through it on I-40. The kind of place where people know how to work with their hands and don't have much patience for things that are fancy but fake.
That attitude shapes everything we do. We don't use fillers to stretch a batch. We don't use synthetic fragrance oils that smell like something engineered in a lab. When something doesn't work, we fix it or we drop it — we don't ship it because we already made it.
"The work is in the craft. That's what we're selling — not a marketing story, an actual product."— Founder, Riot Act Beard Co.
How we make it.
Small batches, by hand, every time. No mass production, no contract manufacturers, no cutting corners to hit a price point. Here's the actual process:
Source the oils
We source cold-pressed jojoba, sweet almond, and argan oils from suppliers we trust. No refined or processed variants.
Mix by hand
Every batch is measured, mixed, and bottled in our Harriman workshop. Small batches mean consistency you can actually count on.
Label and ship
Each bottle is labeled by hand. When it ships, it's the same product we made — not a different formula scaled up.
What we don't do.
No synthetic preservatives. No artificial fragrance oils. No selling a product just because the math works. If we wouldn't use it ourselves, we don't make it. That's the only standard we've got.
It's not a complicated philosophy, but it's one we've held to since the first batch. We're not trying to be the biggest beard company — we're trying to make good products that work, and sell them to guys who appreciate that.
Try it for yourself.
Every product comes with a simple guarantee: if it doesn't work for you, we'll make it right.
